JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE (previously NPL Juniors) – Team One

The Junior Development League (JDL) is the highest level of junior football in WA. The club will hold trials (by INVITE ONLY) for our JDL squad. Current FAFC players who have achieved the required skill development outcomes, demonstrated the appropriate attitude and are committed to the club will receive preference during the selection process.

FAFC players will still be required to participate in the invitational trials to assist with benchmarking external players.

We anticipate our JDL teams to be in either Division 1 or 2. This will be determined by previous year results and/or team grading determined by Football West.

COMMITMENT | A high level of commitment is expected from our JDL players. Pre-season training will be determined by the Coach and advised accordingly but likely to commence in November/December with a break over the Christmas/New Year period. Team training will be twice per week, typically on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Pre-season games will commence in February on Saturdays or Sundays. Due to the change in format, the season length is still to be confirmed by Football West and will likely include some mid-week fixtures and Cup fixtures throughout the season.

Attendance will be required for four 90-minute camps to be run by the club’s Technical Director. An optional but highly encouraged Football Mastery session, run by the club’s Technical Director, will be offered each term. Details will be provided in due course.

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT/COMMUNITY LEAGUE (previously Junior League) – Team Two

The club will hold trials (by INVITE ONLY) for our JDL/JCL squads. Current FAFC players who have achieved the required skill development outcomes, demonstrated the appropriate attitude and are committed to the club will receive preference during the selection process.

FAFC players will still be required to participate in the invitational trials to assist with benchmarking external players.

We anticipate our Team Two to potentially be in the JDL Division 3 or 4 or JCL Division 5 competition. This will be dependent on previous year results and/or team grading determined by Football West.

COMMITMENT | Team training will commence mid-February 2024 one or two nights per week to be determined by the Coach.

An optional but highly encouraged Football Mastery session, run by the club’s Technical Director, will be offered each term. Details will be provided in due course.

Due to the change in format, the season length is still to be confirmed by Football West and will likely include some mid-week fixtures and Cup fixtures throughout the season.

JUNIOR COMMUNITY LEAGUE – BOYS 18s (previously Junior League)

Previous year results will determine which league this team will be placed in by Football West.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of frequently asked questions. If there is something that is not covered below please email info@floreatathenafc.com.au

Training & Matches

Where do we train?

All teams train at Britannia Reserve, Britannia Road, Leederville (Mount Hawthorn).

When do we train?

Your team will train one or two nights per week which will be determined by your coach. Training days and times are subject to coach and training area availability. Once a coach has been appointed to your team they will communicate your training days and times.

Throughout the season, we will have our senior teams come down and assist your coach with training.

Please note we gain full access to Britannia Reserve on the 1 April 2025 so most training will not commence until after this date.

Do we have to attend training?

Yes! Please remember that your child is a member of a team, and much time and effort go into organising training sessions and match days. Think of it this way – training is where all the learning happens, and game day is the big show. Where your child is absent due to illness or travel, please make your coach or team manager aware as soon as possible.

If you are unable to commit to all training sessions, please communicate this with your coach. A plan forward can be made together from there. In our Academy or Junior Development League teams this may impact your position on the squad, but we will work through this through open communication.

What happens on match days?

Your coach will require your child to be at your match day location 30mins prior to kick-off for a pre-match warm and for the coach to conduct a team brief prior to kick-off.

Coaches put a lot of time in to ensuring that each child has their fair share of field time, and this can be thrown when people arrive late or don’t turn up to a match. Where your child is absent due to illness or travel, please make your coach or team manager is aware as soon as possible.

When and where do we play?

U6s to U8s play on a Saturday morning in an intra club competition. This means that every week of the 18-week season you will play at Britannia Reserve, Britannia Road, Leederville (Mount Hawthorn).

U9s to U12s play on a Sunday morning in the Football West MiniRoos, Juniors or Girls home and away competition. Home matches will be played at Britannia Reserve, Britannia Road, Leederville (Mount Hawthorn). Away matches will vary depending on the league that each team is placed in.

When does the season commence?

We are awaiting confirmation from Football West on the 2025 season commencement date. The date will be communicated as soon as it is known.

What are the rules?

MiniRoo’s U6-11s can be found HERE.

MiniRoo’s U12s can be found HERE.

Juniors can be found HERE

Where can I find my team fixtures?

These will be published by Football West on their Squadi app and web page prior to the season starting. Depending on the league, this may not be until shortly before the season starts.

What is Squadi?

Squadi is the competition management program used by Football West to administer the game (from fixtures and results to team sheers – there is a lot included). Once your registration has been completed and your child assigned to a team you will get a welcome email from Squadi.

Why does Squadi say Hi [child’s name] and not my name?

In the instance of having multiple children playing football, you will know which child’s fixtures you are looking at. If you have more than one child playing you will be able to switch between the children’s profiles to see each one’s fixtures.

NOTE: Please do not try and change the name to a parent/guardian’s name as this will also change the players name in the Team Sheet!

How can I view other team fixtures in Squadi?

You can view fixtures for any team by going to the Draws tab and clicking on the icon in the top right corner of the app. You can then add teams to your watchlist.

What do our fees include?

Your fee includes three parts – a Football West component (which includes limited insurance), a Football Australia component, and the club component. These components vary depending on the level registered for. Running one of Perth’s largest football clubs is a huge undertaking. Unlike many other junior sports, participation in football in WA receives no subsidisation of any description from the state or national bodies.

The club component includes – equipment (goals and nets, footballs (we do reuse those from the prior year that are not worn out!), other training equipment (poles, aluminium mini goals, etc.), first aid equipment, match balls, match day tops), referee fees (for U13 to U18 Juniors and Seniors only), line marking, trophies, Football West competition entry fees, facilities (clubroom rental fees, building insurance, council ground fees, electricity (including flood lights), gas and water for kitchens and changerooms, cleaning of the clubrooms and change rooms each week, out of season ground hire where needed), consumables (toilet paper, stationery, printing, signage etc.), annual audit fees of our accounts, website hosting and technical support, payroll and superannuation costs, coaching payments, physio fees (mandatory for NPLWA Men’s matches) and the list goes on…

Your fees also include one standard FAFC Club membership per registered child for one parent. This entitles families to discounted venue hire and other member benefits including voting rights at the AGM and FREE family entry to all Floreat Athena FC Senior NPLWA home matches. Once your player registration has been received and approved you will receive details on how to activate your FAFC Club membership.

Do you have payment plan options?

Case by case payment plans can be negotiated for players/families in genuine financial need. Please contact registrar@floreatathenafc.com.au to arrange. All payment plans must be finalised by the 30 June 2025.

Do you accept KidSport vouchers?

Floreat Athena FC accepts KidSport vouchers as part payment of our fees. If you have a KidSport voucher, please forward the voucher code to registrar@floreatathenafc.com.au. To check if you are eligible for a KidSport payment please click HERE.

Can I get a refund?

Please refer to the Refund Policy (add link) for details on how and when we will provide refunds. Please note, once a registration has been received, the Football West and Football Australia component/fees are non-refundable as they are an unrecoverable cost for the Club.

Players

What do we wear to training/match days?

All players will be issued a match day top to use for the season. The top is then handed back at the end of the season. A $50 fee will be charged for any match day top that is returned in an unusable condition.

All players will also need boots and shin pads to wear on match days and at training. We recommend Onside Sports in Malaga for boots and accessories as they have a large range of brands and sizes.

U6 to U12 MiniRoos – a blue training top, blue shorts and blue socks will be required to be purchased to wear for training with the blue shorts and socks also worn with the match day top.

U9 to U12 Academy – black training top, shorts, socks are required for training. Blue shorts and socks will need to be purchased to wear on match days with the match day top.

U13 to U17 Junior Girls – a blue training top, blue shorts and blue socks will be required to be purchased to wear for training with the blue shorts and socks also worn with the match day top.

Where can we purchase these items?

All items mentioned above can be purchased from the Floreat Athena Shop HERE.

Can our children play in a team with friends?

There will be the ability to play with friends and this will be coordinated closer to the season commencement. There will be an option at registration for you to request to play with a friend(s). We will do our best to fulfil requests, however, the final decision on what teams are formed is ultimately made by the Club.

We ask that players wishing to be considered for Academy or Junior Development League teams understand that as we select players based on their commitment and ability, we cannot consider friendship requests within these teams.

Volunteering

Do I have to volunteer?

Having active volunteers is critical to our Club being able to deliver our football programs to our members. Also, volunteering is another way to help us keep annual costs as low as possible.

Volunteering your time is the single most important thing that the Club needs. We have changed the way in which our members will volunteer for the 2025 season. Here is how it works at registration:

  • When you register to play at FAFC, you are expected to contribute to our Volunteer Roster; four hours per family, per season.
  • If you do not want to commit to volunteering, you can pay a $250 Volunteer Levy to the club to enable us to provide these services. This can be selected when you complete your Play Football registration.
  • No registration will be approved without a commitment to the volunteer program. This is by either committing your time or your money!

Please refer to the Volunteer Program Policy for further details.

How do I change my volunteer shift?

There will be times when you have signed up for a shift and will need to change it. You can log back into the volunteer roster and see what other shifts are available and cancel the shift you can’t attend and rebook one that you can.

Who do I see when I arrive for my shift?
