Our Club
At Floreat Athena FC, the ancient Greek goddess Athena is the emblematic mascot of our club. She is the goddess of wisdom, courage and strength.
Athena has been the inspiration behind some of our club values.
VALUES
Wisdom: we will promote an environment where knowledge and experience are cherished, enabling our players, coaches, volunteers and members to make better decisions, support each other, and achieve collective goals.
Courage: we embody the spirit of resilience, determination, and bravery both on and off the field. By instilling courage in our players, we enhance individual performance but also build stronger, more cohesive teams.
Strength: we will empower our players to achieve their fullest potential both on and off the field by embracing physical, mental and emotional strength. A strong team works together, communicates effectively, and supports one another, enhancing overall performance.
Respect: we will show respect and treat all the people around us with courtesy and empathy.
Community: we will strive to make our community a better place by creating a sense of belonging by being inclusive and creating connections to make our club feel like a second home!
Teamwork: teams can achieve what individuals cannot. We encourage our members, coaches and volunteers to work enthusiastically together toward team goals and team success.
Vision
Our vision is to be a leading football club that embodies the spirit of Greek culture, uniting our community through football. We aspire to develop world-class players, build a legacy of excellence, and create a vibrant, inclusive environment where every individual can thrive. By embracing innovation and tradition, we aim to inspire passion for football and foster lifelong connections among our players, members and supporters.
MISSION
Our mission is to cultivate a passion for football within our community, fostering talent and teamwork while promoting sportsmanship and respect in a safe and inclusive club for every person regardless of ability, age, gender or nationality. Together, we aim to inspire future generations, achieve competitive excellence, and bring pride to our club and community.
Club History
1951 – The Athena Club was established as a place for the local Greek community to unite around football. It also became a place for Greeks to socialise and promote their culture to the broader Australia population.
1953 – The Club entered a team into the third division of WA’s State League.
During the 60’s the Club commenced playing in the top-flight competition after working its way up from the third division.
The Club became one of the founding clubs in the newly formed Soccer Federation of Western Australia. Athena remains one of the few founding clubs still in existence today.
